South Africa begin their tour today by playing
a three-day match against a Busta XI in Georgetown.
The team consists of some familiar faces in Sylvester Jospeh,
Sherwin Campbell, Daren Ganga and Mervyn Dillon.
The West Indies squad
has finally been announced, with, as I suspected, Carl Hooper
at the helm. Predictably, the side does not include Jimmy Adams,
the man who, ironically, was hailed as the saviour of the West
Indies on his return from a lengthy injury layoff in 1999. Sounds
familiar doesn't it? I think Hooper has his job cut out for him.
In all fairness, it should be added that the man has a current
Busta Cup average of 98.77 and it looks like he might have sorted
out some of the issues which many people have always suspected
he might have had. I honestly hope for both his and the West Indies
team's sake that he has a great tour as player and captain.
I was also surprised to notice the absence of Ricardo Powell from
the squad. I suppose he is viewed as predominantly a one-day player.
